Pre Shave Scrub Recommended by Experts

Our Pre Shave Scrub is an amazing product - we've blogged about it before and how it prepares your skin for a smoother, closer shave.

As the first step in our unique 3 Step Shaving System, the pre shave scrub contains prickly pear seed oil to moisturise the skin and the added Amazonian guarana seeds add texture to this invigorating scrub. To finish off, we've added cocoa butter and shea butter which will lubricate and soothe your skin.

It's very easy to use our pre shave scrub.  Just wet the face with warm water and apply a one pump dose. Massage it gently into your skin and then rinse with warm water a few times.  With its natural ingredient, it's ideal for sensitive skin and won't irritate it.  We've got a great video of Erin demonstrating how to use it, so if you'd like to see it, click through to our youtube channel and our pre shave scrub video.

By using a pre shave scrub, you're getting your skin ready for your shave. It removes dead skin cells, so your razor can get that bit closer to your skin and it opens the pores, so your bristles stand up a bit more.  That way you'll be able to get a smoother and closer shave. You can get it online or in any of our London barber shops.

So not only do we, and our customers who use it, think it's a great product, it seems so do those clever chaps over at Modern Barber.  A quarterly magazine devoted to the UK’s barbering industry and written by professional journalists with a background in men's hair and barbering.  Check out the Modern Barber site.

They've featured it in this month's magazine.  Thanks guys!

How to find a good barber in London

Are you looking for a good barber in London? Where do you start? We know there are loads of barber shops in London, but how do you know which ones a good barber shop and which one you should really avoid?

Without being biased (much..)  because we know we’re great!  Here’s our advice on choosing a good barber in London:

Ask around:
Ask someone who’s opinion (and hair) you think is good. Maybe someone you work with, or the guy who serves your morning coffee on the way into work who always seems to have great hair. You may feel a bit embarrassed if it’s a stranger, but to him it’ll be a huge compliment.  Just say you’re looking for a good barber and need a recommendation. Easy!  Twitter is a great source for recommendations, so why not pose a question out to your followers?

Look Online:
Once you’ve got the name of a barber shop in London – maybe from a recommendation, walking past it every day or you’ve picked up a leaflet or promotional voucher somewhere, see what people are saying on line.   Google the barber shop name and if they’ve got lots of happy customers, you’ll see recommendations from all sources – google, twitter, bloggers, social media. You may get the odd one from someone who doesn’t seem as delighted as others, but that’s natural… and human nature to moan, but if the vast majority are saying good things, then they’ve certainly got a good reputation.

Ask for a Barber by Name:
If it’s your first visit to a new barber, then phone up and explain what you want, and ask who the best person would be to do that for you. Whilst all barbers should be skilled and experienced, some specialist in certain areas or styles to it’s worth asking.

So if you’ve done all that and tried somewhere other than Pall Mall Barbers (no, really?)  and you’re not happy, then you know know where to come next time!

Pall Mall Barbers of course, in our opinion (and our customers’) the best barber shops in London.

Male Grooming Event.

We love a good male grooming event at Pall Mall Barbers and we had  a great time at one just event just before the Christmas break, with Tiger of Sweden, Club Wembley and the Jaunty Flaneur.

It was a very sophisticated male grooming event,  in the stylish surrounds of Tiger of Sweden’s Piccadilly Circus store, just around the corner from our own barber shop in Central London. This particular male grooming event was organised by The Golden Ticket, an exclusive networking community for city professionals and those who came were treated to some expert wet shaves, beard trims and general hairstyling from our barbers.

Also on offer, were plenty of free samples from the new Pall Mall Barbers signature range of luxury shaving and male grooming products, like our Sandalwood and Clove Beard Oil that was going down a treat with our hairy faced friends. It seems the popularity of beards continues unabated, so our barbers were on hand to give lots of advice and tips on how to shape your beard, general beard maintenance and care along with some free beard trimming and moustache shaping.

The event showcased the smart new range from Tiger of Sweden and also demonstrating their skills at this male grooming event, were those dapper chaps from Jaunty Flaneur who were shoe shining to perfection.  The whole evening was a masterclass male grooming event, with (nearly…) everyone leaving at the end of the night looking far more groomed and styled than when they arrived and that's always a good thing!

Mens Shaving Brush

A mens shaving brush is so much more than just a simple old shaving brush..... it's a crucial tool in your shaving ritual to get the smoothest, closest shave possible.

The best mens shaving brush is made out of badger's hair, which is world renown for its durability and ability to absorb water, unlike horse hair or any other synthetic material. The bristles in our mens shaving brush will soften and lift the hair follicles on your face for a closer, longer lasting shave.

So why not bring a bit of Pall Mall Barbers old school indulgence into your bathroom and treat yourself to a high grade mens shaving brush?

The best way to use a mens shaving brush is to generate a thick, creamy lather.  We've got a great video here with Erin demonstrating how to use the Fitzrovia mens shaving brush which is available in three great finishes - an imitation ivory, black resin and an oak.

This particular mens shaving brush is great if you have quite tough stubble as the hair is taken from the back of the badger and is therefore rougher and will encourage your bristles to stand up more.  Watch the video, and Erin will show you exactly how to use it and some great shaving tips and advice.

If you then fancy trying it out yourself, then you can buy the Fitzrovia mens shaving brush here, along with a range of our other mens shaving products.

David Beckham's Hairstyle - Style Tips from Pall Mall Barbers

David Beckham's hairstyle always seems to be changing and over the years he's certainly entertained some weird and wonderful hairstyles, but at Pall Mall Barbers  in London,we particularly liked his retro 50’s look.

Whatever style he rocks, he always looks good and he's the men's style icon that we get asked most for by our customers - who want to know the best men's haircut and men's hair styling products to use. So we've put together this Get the Look of David Beckham's hairstyle just for you.

Be prepared though, looking this good does take some maintenance even for David Beckham - you'll need to blow dry and style your hair, but it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes once you get the hang of it.

We'd suggest booking in for a restyle at one of our barbers shops in London for your first appointment and then follow up with a cut and wash every 3 to 4 weeks.  You can book an appointment online here or just phone up one of our barbers shop, here are their locations.

To get this particular David Beckham's hairstyle, your Pall Mall Barber will expertly section your hair off, the clippering then takes place. This is done evenly all the way round. The top of the hair is then cut, starting longer at the fringe (bang) area. Going slightly shorter towards the crown area.

Blowdrying is essential to this hair style and a small round brush would need to be used to gain volume and smooth out the hair this should be done with a small amount of Pall Mall Barbers’ Light Dress Cream being applied when damp and before drying. Finally to finish your David Beckham look, when the hair is dry for a natural look use Pall Mall Barbers Pliable Clay to give it a little more hold.

You can  buy both products online, on the mens hair styling products page.

Traditional Barber Shop in Central London

Pall Mall Barbers and our traditional barber shop is the star of the show!

At Pall Mall Barbers we’re very proud of our traditional barber shop interior.  All wood paneling, lean over sinks and tiling. Not only is it a nod to the great history of barbering but we also see it as staying true to the integrity of a real barbers environment and reflecting our skills as professionals. If you'd like to see our traditional barber shops in London you'll find details of central London locations by clicking on the links above.

It seems many others think so too. And this is probably why our traditional barbers shops in London are often featured as the backdrop in photo shoots, high profile interviews and filming sequences.  You may have seen us in some leading men’s publications like GQ and on some prime TV programmes, such as Heir Hunters on the BBC.

And it looks like our traditional barber shop in Fitzrovia will be on your screens again soon.  It will be featured as the setting for an interview that took place recently for a programme that will be seen on BBC sometime in the near future.

We’re always surprised at how much work goes into filming a sequence, no matter how short it will finally be.  The team who were setting it up were great and it was really interesting to see what was involved. And we like to think the real star of the show was our lovely London barber shop!

As soon as we know when it will be aired and on which BBC channel, we’ll let you know.
